Celtic Jam at Eddie’s Attic

Bring your fiddle, flute, harp, or other Irish instrument and join in the Celtic Jam taking place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.

This peeks interest because one of our fellow runners plays the fiddle and jams. :)

A thought on stretching

This was a recent article in the NY Times about stretching.

Stretching: The Truth

By GRETCHEN REYNOLDS

Published: October 31, 2008

WHEN DUANE KNUDSON, a professor of kinesiology at California State University, Chico, looks around campus at athletes warming up before practice, he sees one dangerous mistake after another. “They’re stretching, touching their toes. . . . ” He sighs. “It’s discouraging.”

Shoe Donations to One Step at a Time

As a runner I have old shoes that I retire.  They end up being used for other activities other than running.  Some of the shoes end up being donated.  If you have old running shoes laying around the home consider donating them.  I have collected a bunch of old running shoes from several running groups, Oakhurst Running Club and Cabbagetown Run Club.  I donated the shoes to Charles Cope at One Step at a Time.  Charles takes the old shoes and puts a little bit of life back into them and then he gives the shoes to charity.  So please consider donating your old shoes to charity or other organizations that recycle running shoes.

Charles Harris 10K - Feb 21, 2009

The Charles Harris Run for Leukemia is this weekend.  The 10K race begins at Tucker High School, proceeds West on Highway 29, and concludes at Shamrock High School. It is certified by the USATF. The relatively fast course is popular among runners who wish to qualify to be seeded for the Peachtree Road Race. The One-Mile Fun Run begins and ends at the race finish line near Shamrock Middle School.

Saturday Morning 2-14-09

Valentines Day Saturday morning run.  Around 10 runners came out this morning for our regular 3.1 mile run.  It was a great morning to run and start off Saturday on the right note.  Here is a PDF file of the Saturday morning route.

Saturday Route

Wednesday Night 2-11-09

It was a windy night for a run.  The wind was blowing from the West and it hit us on Alston, Cottage Grove, and Oakview.  It was a great time to tuck behind someone and draft.  It was above 50 degrees so in 1 week there was a temperature swing upwards of 30 degrees.  We had a good number of people come out.  Thanks!

Saturday Morning 2-7-09

It was a great morning to run 3, 13, and 18 miles.  The weather cooperated with 40 degree temperatures and sunny skies.  It was probably around 50 degrees when we finished.  The route took us through Oakhurst Winona Park, Lake Claire, Candler Park, Druid Hills, Emory, and through Decatur finishing up back at One Step at a Time.  Run was great and leaves the rest of a great weekend to enjoy.

Wednesday Night 2-4-2009

27 degrees and feels like 18 degrees according to weather.com.  It's not the coldest we've ran in but it's still cold for Atlanta.  Call it the Super Bowl chill, around the time of the Super Bowl, it always gets cold then it gets better and better weather heading into real springtime temps.  16 runners showed up at One Step at a Time.  The wind took its toll and it felt like an ice cream headache.  Another Wednesday night in the books, see you next week.

ING Georgia Marathon - Volunteers Needed

We still have many Volunteer opportunities available over the three day event.  Included in these opportunities are Course Marshalls, Fluids at Start/Finish, Corral Monitors, Start Finish Set Up, Registration and Packet Pickup, and Water Stops.  To view all the job opportunities go to ING GA Marathon, select Volunteer, and then select individual registration.  You can then scroll through the jobs and select the job, day and time you prefer.

Please pass on this opportunity to your family and friends as we make this year's ING Georgia Marathon event the most exciting and safe of all. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you in March.

Saturday Morning 1-31-2009

There were 3 seperate groups that ran from One Step at a Time Saturday morning.  The miles ranged from 3.1, 12, and 18 miles.  We all started at 9am and the temp was just under 40 degrees.  The 12 mile group ran into the 18 milers at the corner of Commerce/Columbia and College.  The 12 mile route was hilly and challenging.  The run felt a lot longer.  It was a good training run for the hills of the GA ING.  See you next Saturday.
