Decatur Tree Lighting

The “Tree Lighting” will be held on Thursday, December 3rd from 7 until 8 pm. The Glennwood Choral Group will be entertaining with carols, and “sweet treats” will be provided. The tree will be lit at approximately 7:15 pm. Join the community on East Court Square as we gather for the lighting. Then stay in downtown Decatur for some holiday shopping and dining. Remember- it is one of the last three Terrific Thursdays, so a great opportunity to get in some holiday shopping while supporting our local businesses.

Oakhurst History Stroll

Hosted by our own Charles Cope and Jack Krost.

Take a Stroll and Explore Oakhurst's History
Meet at One Step at a Time, 650-B East Lake Drive
3 p.m. Friday, November 27

Have you been meaning to take one of our historical walks of Oakhurst in the past but haven't been able to make it? Well, here's your chance. Some people who couldn't come in October have asked for another tour. So another one is coming up -- the day after Thanksgiving. It's a good opportunity to work off that Thanksgiving dinner while learning about some interesting events in our neighborhood. And if you've been wondering what to do with your visiting relatives, take them along.
A lot has happened in the Oakhurst area over the years, going back to the Civil War. The walk takes about an hour and a half, and it's free. Just send Jack Krost an RSVP at
jkrost@aol.com to let us know you're interested.

Cabbagetown Romp and Stomp 5K

It's time for the 4th annual Romp and Stomp 5-K in Cabbagetown USA (conveniently located in Atlanta, Ga.). The 5-K kicks off the equally popular Chomp and Stomp Chili and Bluegrass Festival. This is the 4th year for the 5-K and we've grown each year. Flat, fast course great for first timers or PR's. Walkers, joggers, strollers welcomed. Awesome, long sleeved T-shirt to all participants. Free chili to all race participants at the festival later that day -- a $5 value and no waiting in line.

This race caps at 1,000 runners.

For those that already know they want to run, go straight to Active.com and sign up here. There is a flyer attached to this e-mail as well. Check it out to get an idea of the T-shirt, brought to us again by a top-notch graphic designer, Mark Kirby of Mark Kirby Creative. Feel free to print and mail in with the $25 check. You can also register at any of four Big Peach locations - Kennesaw, Atlanta, Marietta, Decatur - and receive your race number! www.bigpeachrunning.com.

Here are the key details.

Start of the race: 8 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7
Cost: $25 (race day is $30)
Registration location: Milltown Arms, 180 Carroll Street, Atlanta, Ga. 30316. Park at Agave lot -- corner of Boulevard and Memorial Dr. on the south side of Cabbagetown.
