Decatur was designated a Cool City by the Sierra Club Cool City Campaign in March 2007. Decatur joined approximately 1000 other cities in signing the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, pledging to reduce carbon emissions within the city to 7% below 1990 levels by 2012.
In the spring of 2008, a group of Sierra Club members collaborated with individuals from other community, religious and environmental organizations to form Decatur Cool City Coalition, DC3.
DC3 believes Decatur can be a model to other cities in Georgia through the actions taken to address Climate Change. DC3 is committed to supporting city government, schools, churches, residents, and businesses in Decatur to reduce their carbon emissions by 2012.
Please, contact Eleanor Hand at decatur.coolcity@sierraclub.org or (404)-213-3025 if you would like to participate in the Decatur Cool City Campaign. DC3 has bimonthly meetings at 7:30PM at the Atlanta Friends Meeting House in Decatur.
This was from the Georgia Sierra Club. Decatur is a Cool City.
