Active Stretching Trounces Static Stretching For Hamstring Flexibility

Ive always wondered between the two because I practice both.

Active Stretching Trounces Static Stretching For Hamstring Flexibility

This randomized controlled trial pitted 6 weeks of active hamstring stretching against 6 weeks of static stretching. At the end, subjects who used the active routine had an 8.7 degree increase in hamstring flexibility vs. 5.3 degrees for the static stretchers. A month after the trial, the actives maintained a 6.3 degree gain vs. just 0.1 for the statics. The active routine also took less time. Conclusion: "Active stretching produced the greater gain, and the gain was almost completely maintained after 4 weeks." Source: Clinical Journal Of Sports Medicine.
