Study: Atlanta fittest city in Southeast
By Christian Boone
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
You wouldn't know it by visiting one of our city's many fine buffets, but Atlanta is the Southeast's healthiest metropolis.
The annual American College of Sports Medicine's fitness index considers 30 factors in compiling its list of the country's healthiest cities. They include: disease rates, mortality, physical attributes and even how many veggies and fruits the population eats.
Atlanta finished 16th overall, dropping one notch from a year ago. For the third year in a row, Washington, D.C., ranked first, followed by Boston, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Seattle and Portland.
Oklahoma City brought up the rear, finishing behind Birmingham and Memphis.
