Calavino’s Lunch/Dinner Promo

I ran into Calavino this past week and she told me about her Lunch and Dinner promotion.  Here are the details from her Facebook page.

She also told me about movie nights.  When I looked on her page though, movie night is on Wednesday night.  That's running and Mojo's, sorry.  Feel free to pass this along to other though and don't forget the lunch and dinner promo if you are in that area for lunch.  The dinner promo is good for the week and not just for the day of eating lunch.

Phnom Penh in Tucker

Hilary had a coupon for this restaurant because we have never tried Cambodian Cuisine before.  We were not disappointed.  Out of 6 dishes, we struck out on 1 because we added too much coconut milk.  It was a real good meal and at a good price.  It was a drive out to Tucker but it was well worth it.  There are several reviews about the restaurant from TripAdvisor, Yelp, Urban Spoon, and Creative Loafing.

Apply Now for the ING New York City Marathon
Sunday, November 1, 2009

Get to know the thrill of a 26.2-mile journey through NYC with fellow ING New York City marathoners.

The ING New York City Marathon 2009 lottery will be open for U.S. applicants until 11:59 p.m. June 1, 2009

Visit their website for more information.

For the opportunity to run for a charity team, such as Team for Kids, Fred’s Team, or another one of their charities, visit their website.

I ran the NYC marathon and it was such an incredible experience.  I had goals of a PR time which I didn't meet but the experience of running through the city with so many fans cheering was worth it.  I was expecting to run it this year and not last.  If you apply 3 times and you don't get in, you are automatically get in on the 4th try.  I "won" the lottery on the 3rd time.  If you ever have a chance to run the NYC Marathon, take the opportunity.

Cool City Decatur

Decatur was designated a Cool City by the Sierra Club Cool City Campaign in March 2007. Decatur joined approximately 1000 other cities in signing the Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, pledging to reduce carbon emissions within the city to 7% below 1990 levels by 2012.

In the spring of 2008, a group of Sierra Club members collaborated with individuals from other community, religious and environmental organizations to form Decatur Cool City Coalition, DC3.

DC3 believes Decatur can be a model to other cities in Georgia through the actions taken to address Climate Change. DC3 is committed to supporting city government, schools, churches, residents, and businesses in Decatur to reduce their carbon emissions by 2012.

Please, contact Eleanor Hand at decatur.coolcity@sierraclub.org or (404)-213-3025 if you would like to participate in the Decatur Cool City Campaign. DC3 has bimonthly meetings at 7:30PM at the Atlanta Friends Meeting House in Decatur.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park Scavenger Hunt

From Big Peach Running Company...

A Hunting We Will Go…

First, how about hunting for some clues while you get to experience magnificent Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park!

Here’s how it works:
25 teams of 2-4 participants* meet at the park’s visitor center for a fun, friendly trivia contest. The team with the most correct answers gets to leave on the scavenger hunt first! Then, armed with your best puzzle solving skills and a digital camera, or cell phone camera…a hunting you will go! Follow the clues as you learn about the history of this incredible park. Take a picture of your team at each site, before heading back. Yes you will be mostly on trails, and yes you will experience some hills (it is called Kennesaw MOUNTAIN after all), and the route should be about 5-6 miles. (* Participants under 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Families with lots of children (more than 2) may sign up as a team, and not leave any of the little hunters behind!)

The team solving the most clues, not necessarily the fastest team wins! Talk about fun for the whole family!! All groups must finish the hunt by 11:30am. Big Peach is providing some great prizes to the winning teams!

This is a very cool, unique event put on as a joint project between Big Peach Running Co., and the National Parks Service at Kennesaw Mountain! A donation of $20 is requested for each team. Proceeds go to the Kennesaw Mountain Historical Association for the benefit of the educational programs of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Please bring a check or cash with you to the event on Saturday.

Now all you need to do is sign up. Please have only one team member register for the run, and happy hunting!

Nectar in Oakhurst

This past weekend we took a walk around the neighborhood and made our way to Oakhurst.  We passed through the village and found the doors of Nectar open.  We have seen the signs but we have always missed it being open.  So we went in and tried it out.  It's motto is "Be Healthy = Be Happy."  With a motto like that we had to try it out.

We had the Nutella, Organic Banana, and Soy Milk smoothie.  It is described as having protein, a brain stormer, and energizer.  Needless to say it was good.  There was also a full selection of food and ice creams to go along with the various smoothies.  We look forward to trying out the other stuff on the menu.

They are great neighborhood citizens donating their food waste to the Oakhurst Community Garden compost pile.  Nectar is also from the restauranteurs who brough us Bhojanic.  Try out the local neighborhood eatery and smoothie place.

Clover Coffee at Dancing Goats

A couple of weekends ago we stopped in at Dancing Goats Coffee Bar in Decatur.  We have known about the Clover coffee machine for a while and wanted to try it.  And Dancing Goats has the $11,000 machine.  Wired magazine did an article on the Clover coffee machine and that's how we came to know about it.  Here's the link to the article.  With all the publicity and knowing about it for some time, we had to try it.

It was great coffee.  The price wasn't much more than a regular cup of coffee either.  The first thing I notice is that there was a whoile ritual to it.  The whole beans are measured precisely and then ground.  The grinds go into the machine and again a ritual of making a plus sign, "+", to agitate the grounds as the water pours in.  Then the machine does its thing.  Every bean has a specific setting to it to enhance the flavor.  As it comes out  it wasn't as piping hot as a regular cup of coffee.  The flavor was full, tasty.  Grant it that we chose the Ethiopian Blueberry Coffee so that was a lot of the great taste also.

So if you have a chance, go and try it.  Taste it for yourself; try coffee made from an $11K coffee machine.
