Wednesday Night Run 6-27-2012

Hello ORC,

Runners are out in force most every morning preparing for the Peachtree on July 4th. Are you running it? Which brings up a good point, next Wednesday is July 4th, who's going to come out for the run? A run will still be scheduled just to keep the streak alive. I haven't even asked Charles if the store will be open next Wednesday. Will the streak of consecutive Wednesday nights continue? Are there die-hards who will come out and run a little bit to keep the streak going? Run and you can still make the fireworks at 9pm. Stay tuned...

This Friday if you are one of the 1st 25 people for an 11 Alive tapping at the Square, you can get a free Revolution doughnut. How early to be the 1st 25, how about 4:30am. That's early and I don't know if I can get motivated for a doughnut at 4:30am. Peachapalooza is this weekend and there is an after-party at Steinbeck's. And for more peaches, it is the 2nd Annual Peach Jam Hosted by Slow Food Atlanta in EAV. And even more peaches, the Grant Park Peach Jam Cobbler Contest. 99X's Unplugged in the park continues at Piedmont Park. The New Belgium Tour De Fat is coming to the Old 4th Ward Park. It should make for a real interesting time. There is Jazz on the Lawn at Callonwolde. O4W Alive is hosting the Studiofest Art Music Food Festival.

What else is going on this weekend?

From this weekend to July 4th there are a lot of races around the area. On Saturday, June 30, are the 5th Annual HBCU Alumni 5K Run/Walk in Grant Park and A Dancer's Heart 5K in Decatur. For something longer there is the Peachtree Corners Festival Road Race 5K & 10K in Peachtree Corners. On Wednesday, July 4, is of course the ATC Peachtree Road Race 10K. There are more but I just wanted to highlight the local races because you can run other 10K's in Dahlonega, Wrightsville, and St. Mary's.

This Wednesday, tonight, you will be running route 11, the Decatur Cemetery run. There are a lot of turns on this route. Hope it's laid out enough on the map for you to follow. If not, keep an eye out for the person in front of you. The link to the route is at the bottom of this e-mail. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks and trivia.

Enjoy your run Wednesday night. Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

Wednesday Night Run 6-20-2012

Hello ORC,

While I was out on Monday morning, I could not believe the number of runners that were out. I pointed this out to someone and they said the runners are most likely training for the July 4th AJC Peachtree 10K. They are right, there is always an uptick in runners at this time getting ready for the Peachtree. This sounds interesting; this weekend is the Georgia Dachshund races in Marietta. Decatur ghost tours continue. There is a paper dolls art exhibit at 1710 Defoor Av. Like a Purple Haze Across the Land: The Art of Benny Andrews is at 540 Asbury. Decatur is hosting a self-defense and empowerment workshop. 99X is having unplugged in the park. On Monday is the 1st annual lights vs. darks homebrew competition.

What else is going on this week and weekend?

There are not a lot of races this weekend. On Saturday, June 23 at Piedmont Park is the Atlanta Pride Run 5K. While out in Alpharetta is the Summer Break Block Party & 5K. If you are interested in hitting the trails, there is the Dirty Spokes Central Park 5.0/2.5 Mile Trail Running Race in Cumming.

This Wednesday you will be running route 15. It's the Katie Kerr run. There are some nice challenging hills and after making at all the way past the last steep hill and false flats, you finish strongly on the downhill to One Step at a Time. It's one of the few routes that actually has a downhill finish. You can see the map through the link below. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks, and trivia.

Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

Wednesday Night Run 6-13-2012

Hello ORC,

I am back. Bill was right, I was on vacation for the last 2 weeks. I thought I would have a more reliable internet connection but I didn't. As much as it is great to be disconnected, it also shows how much I rely on being connected. Thanks to Bill for picking up my slack and sending out the route. If anyone is interested in sending these emails, let me know. I am going to talk to Charles about this also. After a long time of not being a regular runner on Wednesday nights; it's probably best to have someone who is there regularly to send these emails out.
Happy Father's Day this weekend. This Friday is the Decatur Beach Party. Decatur Ghost Tours continue this weekend at the Decatur Square Community Bandstand. The Decatur's Farmers market is celebrating 10 years. 99X Unplugged in the park is at Piedmont Park. Michelle Malone is at Eddie's Attic for a couple of shows. The First Existentialist Congregation is screening Stonewall Uprising. At Candler Park is the Red Stripe Midsummer Music Festival.
What else is going on this week/weekend?
Here's a sampling of local races this weekend. There is the Run Zulu 5K in Dunwoody. In Sandy Springs is the Dash4Dad 5K run & 1 mile walk. Closer to the neighborhood is the Friends of Candler Park 5K in Candler Park. Or at Turner Field is the ATC Father's Day 4-Miler. For something longer is the Run of The Ville Half Marathon & 5K in Snellville and the Color Dash & Daddy Diva Benefit Run 10K/5K/Fun Run and Daddy Diva Run in Bainbridge. For trail runners there is the Rope Mill Adventure Run 4 mile and 10 mile Trail Run, Rope Mill Park in Woodstock.
This Wednesday you are running through the Winnona neighborhood on Route 1. Hopefully you haven't run this route in the last 2 weeks. The run goes through Kirkwood, through McKoy Park, around Winnona, through Agnes Scott, and a long finishing straight on Ansley. This run has a lot of turns but it's all in the neighborhood, you can run your way out. The link to Route 1 is at the bottom of this e-mail. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks and trivia.
Enjoy your run Wednesday night. Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.
