Wednesday Night Run 6-27-2012

Hello ORC,

Runners are out in force most every morning preparing for the Peachtree on July 4th. Are you running it? Which brings up a good point, next Wednesday is July 4th, who's going to come out for the run? A run will still be scheduled just to keep the streak alive. I haven't even asked Charles if the store will be open next Wednesday. Will the streak of consecutive Wednesday nights continue? Are there die-hards who will come out and run a little bit to keep the streak going? Run and you can still make the fireworks at 9pm. Stay tuned...

This Friday if you are one of the 1st 25 people for an 11 Alive tapping at the Square, you can get a free Revolution doughnut. How early to be the 1st 25, how about 4:30am. That's early and I don't know if I can get motivated for a doughnut at 4:30am. Peachapalooza is this weekend and there is an after-party at Steinbeck's. And for more peaches, it is the 2nd Annual Peach Jam Hosted by Slow Food Atlanta in EAV. And even more peaches, the Grant Park Peach Jam Cobbler Contest. 99X's Unplugged in the park continues at Piedmont Park. The New Belgium Tour De Fat is coming to the Old 4th Ward Park. It should make for a real interesting time. There is Jazz on the Lawn at Callonwolde. O4W Alive is hosting the Studiofest Art Music Food Festival.

What else is going on this weekend?

From this weekend to July 4th there are a lot of races around the area. On Saturday, June 30, are the 5th Annual HBCU Alumni 5K Run/Walk in Grant Park and A Dancer's Heart 5K in Decatur. For something longer there is the Peachtree Corners Festival Road Race 5K & 10K in Peachtree Corners. On Wednesday, July 4, is of course the ATC Peachtree Road Race 10K. There are more but I just wanted to highlight the local races because you can run other 10K's in Dahlonega, Wrightsville, and St. Mary's.

This Wednesday, tonight, you will be running route 11, the Decatur Cemetery run. There are a lot of turns on this route. Hope it's laid out enough on the map for you to follow. If not, keep an eye out for the person in front of you. The link to the route is at the bottom of this e-mail. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks and trivia.

Enjoy your run Wednesday night. Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

Wednesday Night Run 6-20-2012

Hello ORC,

While I was out on Monday morning, I could not believe the number of runners that were out. I pointed this out to someone and they said the runners are most likely training for the July 4th AJC Peachtree 10K. They are right, there is always an uptick in runners at this time getting ready for the Peachtree. This sounds interesting; this weekend is the Georgia Dachshund races in Marietta. Decatur ghost tours continue. There is a paper dolls art exhibit at 1710 Defoor Av. Like a Purple Haze Across the Land: The Art of Benny Andrews is at 540 Asbury. Decatur is hosting a self-defense and empowerment workshop. 99X is having unplugged in the park. On Monday is the 1st annual lights vs. darks homebrew competition.

What else is going on this week and weekend?

There are not a lot of races this weekend. On Saturday, June 23 at Piedmont Park is the Atlanta Pride Run 5K. While out in Alpharetta is the Summer Break Block Party & 5K. If you are interested in hitting the trails, there is the Dirty Spokes Central Park 5.0/2.5 Mile Trail Running Race in Cumming.

This Wednesday you will be running route 15. It's the Katie Kerr run. There are some nice challenging hills and after making at all the way past the last steep hill and false flats, you finish strongly on the downhill to One Step at a Time. It's one of the few routes that actually has a downhill finish. You can see the map through the link below. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks, and trivia.

Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

Wednesday Night Run 6-13-2012

Hello ORC,

I am back. Bill was right, I was on vacation for the last 2 weeks. I thought I would have a more reliable internet connection but I didn't. As much as it is great to be disconnected, it also shows how much I rely on being connected. Thanks to Bill for picking up my slack and sending out the route. If anyone is interested in sending these emails, let me know. I am going to talk to Charles about this also. After a long time of not being a regular runner on Wednesday nights; it's probably best to have someone who is there regularly to send these emails out.
Happy Father's Day this weekend. This Friday is the Decatur Beach Party. Decatur Ghost Tours continue this weekend at the Decatur Square Community Bandstand. The Decatur's Farmers market is celebrating 10 years. 99X Unplugged in the park is at Piedmont Park. Michelle Malone is at Eddie's Attic for a couple of shows. The First Existentialist Congregation is screening Stonewall Uprising. At Candler Park is the Red Stripe Midsummer Music Festival.
What else is going on this week/weekend?
Here's a sampling of local races this weekend. There is the Run Zulu 5K in Dunwoody. In Sandy Springs is the Dash4Dad 5K run & 1 mile walk. Closer to the neighborhood is the Friends of Candler Park 5K in Candler Park. Or at Turner Field is the ATC Father's Day 4-Miler. For something longer is the Run of The Ville Half Marathon & 5K in Snellville and the Color Dash & Daddy Diva Benefit Run 10K/5K/Fun Run and Daddy Diva Run in Bainbridge. For trail runners there is the Rope Mill Adventure Run 4 mile and 10 mile Trail Run, Rope Mill Park in Woodstock.
This Wednesday you are running through the Winnona neighborhood on Route 1. Hopefully you haven't run this route in the last 2 weeks. The run goes through Kirkwood, through McKoy Park, around Winnona, through Agnes Scott, and a long finishing straight on Ansley. This run has a lot of turns but it's all in the neighborhood, you can run your way out. The link to Route 1 is at the bottom of this e-mail. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks and trivia.
Enjoy your run Wednesday night. Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

Wednesday Night Run 5-16-2012

Hello ORC,

The festival season is upon us and there are some cool events to go to this weekend. This weekend is Kirkwood's Spring Fling. Sunday is Atlanta Streets Alive. They have moved the venue from downtown Atlanta and are not closing streets along Highland Ave. This should be better than years past just because of the location change. And if you are interested, Friday is Bike To Work Day. Decatur Bikes is having an energizer station to help you on your way. This Saturday is also the Concerts on the Square series. Bazaar Bizarro is at Gaia Gardens. There is the Sweet Auburn Music fest. At Historic Fourth Ward Park is the Cans Film Festival. Tunes from the Tombs is at Historic Oakland Cemetery.

What else is going on this week and weekend?

For your local racing this weekend, starting on Thursday, May 18, is the Dixie200 Relay in Marietta. On Saturday, May 19, are the 2012 Brookhaven Bolt 5K and the Kirkwood Spring Fling 5K just to mention some local runs. Check out the Kirkwood Spring Fling after the race. It's always a great little neighborhood event. For trail racing, there is the Dirty Spokes Mt Tabor 8.0/4.0 Mile Trail Running Race in Hiram. Out in Mountain City is the Warrior Dash Mud Run. I know there was an extra entry form floating around and offered on the ORC list. On Sunday, May 20, is The Freight Train 5K in Kennesaw.

On Wednesday night you will be running route 13. After looping through Kirkwood, the route goes up the hard flat of Oakview and hits the hills of Spence/McDonough. The link to the route is at the bottom of this e-mail. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks and trivia.

Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

To all my gnomies out there, for the Inman Park Festival Parade, the gnomes are gathering to set the world record for a gnome march. They need to beat 478 set by the Brits. Darn those Brit gnomes! Line up at 2pm on Saturday and bring your pointy red hat. I love gnomes! In addition to the gnome parade there is also some small festival going on called the Inman Park Festival. Note, take Marta. Wednesday Night Run 4-18-2012

Hello ORC,

I guess it's been great weather because there are more and more folks out running these days. It's that time where it's still relatively cool and not the overbearing heat of summer. The rain date for Touch A truck is this weekend. Not that the adults receiving this email will want to touch a truck (or maybe you do), you may have young-uns that want to jump on the trucks. On Sunday is Decatur Earth day at the Oakhurst Gardens. There is a Girl Scout yard sale in Avondale Estates. Earth Fest 2012 is going on at Shallowford Presbyterian. There is the Sweetwater 420 fest in Candler Park. The Dogwood festival is this weekend. There is the WRFG Bluegrass festival in Clarkston. There is a roller derby double header with the Atlanta Rollergirls at the Yaarab Shrine Center Auditorium. The Druid Hills Artists Market is at St. John's Lutheran.

What else is going on this weekend?

Again there are a lot of local races this weekend. It's actually pretty amazing to see. This past weekend, I was driving on DeKalb Av and there were 2 races going that passed by the same busy intersection. Literally, runners from 2 different races would pass each other. This weekend is the Southern Blue Relay up in Amicalola Falls State Park. On Saturday on the local races side are Sweetwater 420 Fest 5K in Candler Park and the Romp Thru The Woods 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run in Decatur. On Sunday but not local are the ZOOMA Atlanta Half Marathon & 5K at Lake Lanier Islands, the Rock the New Moon Half Marathon/5K/10K in Lawrenceville, and the 1st Annual Coach Jay 5K and Crocs Walk in Kennesaw. For you trail racers there is the Dirty Spokes Gainesville State College 5.3/2.5 Mile Trail Running Race in Gainesville.

This Wednesday you will be running route 11, the Decatur Cemetery run. There are a lot of turns on this route. Hope it's laid out enough on the map for you to follow. I don't remember the last time this route was used; it's been a while. The link to the route is at the bottom of this e-mail. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks and trivia.

Enjoy your run Wednesday night. Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

Wednesday Night Run 4-11-2012

Hello ORC,

This is awesome weather and there are a lot of people out and about. Although I wish Decatur kept up with food truck Thursday's over by Cosmic Kitchen. I went on the last Thursday they had it and it was great to see. I guess this means I am jumping on the Atlanta food truck bandwagon. East of Eden is screening at the Toco Hills library this Friday. The Oakhurst Community Gardens is having a plant sale. If you have paint to get rid of, Briarlake Baptist has a paint recycling event. Snow White is playing at DHS. Atlanta CPR is offering free CPR classes. The Atlanta Comic Convention is in town. The Atlanta Rollergirls is having a Spirit Night at Grindhouse Killer Burgers on Thursday, April 12th.

What else is going on? Care to share?

There seems to be a whole lot of races this weekend. Some are even doubling up in the same parts of town. On Saturday, April 14, are the Run with the Wolves 5K on Atlanta, the runningnerds 5K also in Atlanta, Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool has the Beat the Street for Little Feet 5K & Mile at Coan Park, the Atlanta Track Club is hosting their Spring 8K & 15K in Inman Park, the 40th Annual Pi Mile 5K Road Race is at Georgia Tech, and the Run Before You Crawl 5K is at Brownwood Park. There are even more around the Metro Atlanta area.

This Wednesday you will be running route 15. It's the Katie Kerr run. The group hasn't run this in a while but with more daytime light, the run will not be on unlit streets. All the construction along Candler Rd is also finished up.

Brushing the dust off a couple of routes so let me know if the link below doesn't work and I will correct it.

Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.

Hello ORC,

There is more sunlight during the Wednesday night runs. Warmer weather is coming around so brace for the Summer heat. I have read that Yoga is good for runners and there are 2 introductory yoga classes going on; one at Shambhala and the other at Trilogy. There are lots of Easter events this weekend and it's hard not to miss them on event calendars. The Night of the Iguana is at the Mary Gray Munroe Theater. Improv A-Hole is at the Village Theatre.

What else is going on this week/weekend?

Here's a sampling of local races this weekend. If a Friday run interest you, you are going to have to drive for it. There are races in Eatonton, Good Friday Races 5K/10.4K, and Dawsonville, Moonlight Flight 5K & Fun Run. On Saturday, there is the Dirty Spokes Olde Rope Mill 6.5 Mile Trail Race in Woodstock, the Northeast Georgia Spring Run Mile/5K/Half Marathon in Blairsville, Give By Faith's 5K Rabbit Run in Chastain Park, the Fuller Center 5K & Mile in McDonough, and The Atlanta Encore Color Run 5K in Hampton. On Sunday is the Hoppin' Easter Half Marathon/5K/10K in Snellville.

This Wednesday you are running through the Winnona neighborhood on Route 1.

There is a free paper shredding and Styrofoam recycling event the city of Decatur is hosting at 2635 Talley St. Michelle Malone Banned is at Eddie's Attic. Pottery Shows continue at MudFire. There is The 24 Hr. Plays, April Fool's Day Edition at Onstage Atlanta. BaconFest is this weekend at Dad's Garage. Decatur Ghost Tours continue this Friday. At the park tavern is the Oyster Crawfish Festival. On Friday is Skateboard Nation playing at Landmark; a free screening about skateboarding on Native American reservations and how it gives back to the community.

What else is going on this week/weekend? Anyone want to share?

The GA Publix marathon and half marathon have passed. The Tour DeCatur has passed. So here are some races for this weekend. On Saturday, March 31, some local runs are the Dental Dash for Disabilities 5K & Fun Run at Old Fourth Ward Park, Andee's Army 5K Walk/Run in Sandy Springs, The Color Run 5K at Piedmont Park, and RaceTrac's Run for Research 5K in Atlanta. For you multi-sport athletes there is the Blankets Creek Dirty Duathlon in Canton. On Sunday, April 1, there is the Daffodil Dash 5K in Dunwoody. No April Fool's day runs?

This Wednesday you will be running route 6. There are the challenging hills of Delano, the grind up Rogers, and of course climbing up McClendon. There is more and more light for our nightly runs so use your best judgment for wearing your lights and other reflective gear for the run. If anything, safety is better. The link to the route is at the bottom of this e-mail. After the run it's off to Mojo's Pizza for food, drinks and trivia.

Enjoy your run Wednesday night. Thanks for making the Oakhurst Running Club one of the friendliest running club in Atlanta.
