Dia de los Muertos - Mingei World Arts

Mingei is draped in bones and ready for The Day of the Dead!
This celebration which has roots in pre-hispanic times in Mexico is marked by making altars to honor and remember those who have passed, feasting and celebrating life and its end.
We have everything you may need to get into the spirit.
Muertos for all occasions and occupations!
Monarch butterfly skeletons, winged devils,
skulls hinged and magnetized, molds for sugar skulls, cards, papel picado for festooning, dangly skeleton earrings,
and yes, Virginia, there is a Michael Jackson!

We are also heaped with wonderful Mexican folk art-- Frida and Mexican luchadora wrestlers, jaguars, saints and demons galore!

Atlanta Pagan Pride Day - Saturday, October 10th

In addition to having an interesting festival, the Atlanta Pagan community is collecting canned food for the Atlanta Food Bank this Saturday at the Friends Church. The need for food is quite urgent, and this would be an easy way to help.  If anyone won't be around this Saturday, feel free to leave donations on my porch at 119 Adair Street, across the street from the Friends Playground.

Tribute to Ben Sklaver, Cabbagetown Run Club

An article by Tim Sullivan for the Cabbagetown Newsletter.  I have ran with Ben with the Cabbagetown Run.  This article truly describes who Ben is.  Thank to Tim for sharing this with us...

If you care to read it, I wrote this piece for the Cabbagetown Newsletter below.  Ben’s family is looking to collect all personal recollections, stories, photos etc. to create an album.  Please submit any you may have to benjaminsklaver@gmail.com –Tim

About Ben                                                                                                                10/6/2009I had a sinking feeling late Saturday afternoon when Jake Herrle knocked on my door.  He was Ben Sklaver’s next door neighbor on Berean and his best friend in Cabbagetown so the worst immediately leapt into my mind.  Then just as quickly I talked myself out of it.  Maybe it was just a neighborly drop-in??   Ben did that all the time.  But then I could tell Jake was shaking a little bit and my heart bungee jumped.  I grabbed him a beer and braced myself for what I knew was coming.  Ben was killed while on patrol in Afghanistan.

CUSTOM TIE YOUR RUNNING SHOES

From Runner's World, I have always found this article one of the best to refer to when I am having problems with shoes fitting my feet.

CUSTOM TIE YOUR RUNNING SHOES

Here are five ways to lace your running shoes and relieve that nagging foot pain.

By Susan Rinkunas

PUBLISHED 11/27/2007 You went to a running specialty store, tested out several models, and bought a pair that felt great. So why are your new running shoes rubbing you the wrong way? Even if you are fitted with a pair that suits your arch type and weekly mileage, your feet may have characteristics that make the seemingly perfect shoe less than comfortable over the long haul. Luckily, the solution could be as easy as relacing your shoes, says Richard Bouché, D.P.M., of the Sports Medicine Clinic in Seattle, who provided the techniques below. "Before you get a new shoe, try adjusting the lacing to enhance the fit," Bouché says. "It's a small change that can make a big difference."
