Publix 5K & Kids Fun Run
The second annual Publix Run Wild 5K & Kids Fun Run happens Saturday, March 20, 2010 in Grant Park. Historic Grant Park is the home of Zoo Atlanta and the Cyclorama Civil War Museum. The 5K and Kids Fun Run are part of our ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon Weekend. This year we are partnering with Zoo Atlanta, encouraging participants to make it a family fun day. All participants in the 5K and Kids Fun Run will be able to purchase discounted Zoo Atlanta tickets.
The Publix Run Wild 5K circles in and around Grant Park and features rolling hills and lots of “straightaways”.
The Publix Run Wild Kids Fun Run features 4 separate “races” based on age groups. The kids get to share the excitement and fun of a race with other kids their own age. To participate ,children must be 10 years old or younger on March 20, 2010.
The kids age groups and fun run distances are: - 4 years old and younger - 0.1 mile
- 5 & 6 year old - 0.25 mile
- 7 & 8 year old - 0.5 mile
- 9 & 10 year old - 0.75 mile
Parents are encouraged to “run” with the kids less than 4 years old. Only your child needs to officially register; parents or adults can run with children in the Fun Run for free.
Each “kid” finisher gets not only a T-shirt; they get a MEDAL, too! This is a great achievement for the kids and very rewarding for the parents.
Morning activities include arts, crafts and balloon twisting artists. The popular ZOO Mobile will be there with an animal encounter. A special ceremony will be presented by live re-enactors in front of the Atlanta Cyclorama, Atlanta's Civil War Museum.
The Atlanta Braves B.A.T. (Braves Around Town) Rally Team will be in full swing. Displays include a tent set-up combined with one of the interactive, family friendly inflatable games. Fans who visit the B.A.T. Team are able to win promotional prizes, learn more about activities going on at Turner Field, and purchase tickets to future games.
Team mascot Homer, from the Atlanta Braves and team mascot Thrash from the Atlanta Thrashers will be making special appearances.
The official starter of the 5K and Kids Fun Run is Plato, team mascot from proud sponsor, Publix Supermarkets.

Children ages 4 & under will complete .1 mi; children ages 5 & 6 will complete .25 mi; children ages 7 & 8 will complete .5 mi; children ages 9 & 10 will complete .75 mi. Every registered child will receive an official race T-shirt and participant medal. An adult is encouraged to run with children less the age 4, with no additional charge.
All participants can buy discounted tickets to Zoo Atlanta. Morning activities will include arts and crafts, balloon twisting and visits from local mascots Homer, from the Atlanta Braves and Thrash from the Atlanta Thrashers; the Braves B.A.T. (Braves Around Town) Team Interactive Activity; ZOO Mobile Atlanta with an animal encounter; special Cyclorama ceremony.
